How Grace Church Began...
Grace Episcopal Church began as a mission of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre. More than one hundred years ago, the Faithful began meeting on the front porch of the yet unfinished home of Benjamin Dorrance. The burgeoning congregation soon constructed a mission Chapel for worship at its current location and Grace Church continued to grow. Grace Church grew so fast it became an independent Parish in 1921. Within a decade, a new stone English Country Gothic edifice was begun to serve this thriving Church amidst the calamity of the Great Depression. A testament to the enduring commitment of the people of this Parish in very difficult economic times, the Faithful finished and paid for Grace Church within five years. We lovingly maintain our edifice in their memory. It serves as our link to the past and the bedrock of our future.
